GuadaLinex born as a software distribution designed to give effect to Decree 72/2003, in which the Andalusian Government opts for the open source code as a tool for boosting the knowledge-based society in Andalusia. The first and most obvious advantage is to provide all the necessary software for the basic use of a computer, without more investment than the purchase of equipment. This means reducing the barrier access to the knowledge society in several hundred euros per person or family. It also means independence and technological innovation. Communication and participatory spirit has been the driving force of science since its inception. In many cases open source code is a lesson of solidarity.
